For this community practice I decided to go to a restaurant I haven't been to in a while. Its called Puerto Vallarta. The food there is amazing and their desserts even better. This time I only went and got dessert. I got sopapilla which is my favorite dessert there. They're so light and really yummy with the chocolate sauce but i love to eat them with honey. They make all their tortillas are all made fresh and you can see the lady making them by hand. I think that that is really cool because not too many people or restaurants do that.

CP 10
Today before work I spotted a little "fair" and it was a Spanish gathering. It actually was a lot of fun. They were so welcoming and nice. Not to many people are like that now a days. They had music playing, some dancers dancing the tango and something called the zambra. They were some beautiful dances and their outfits were even more beautiful. I couldn't stay too long but the time that I was there I had a lot of fun and wish I could have stayed later. The picture I took is the back of the couple and I took it in black and white because I feel like that is more romantic. This one lady loved it so much that she wanted me to send it to her so she could use it.

Last night I got some really bad news about my aunt so I left work early and decided to throw on a movie from Netflix. The first movie that came up was El Cielo en Tu Mirada. I made me even more sad since it was about death and guardian angels but I think it was the perfect movie for my mood. It wasn't the best Spanish movie that I have seen and it wasn't too well acted out but aside from the sadness it was kind of funny. The main guy wants a second chance at life just to win a singing contest to win over a girl. It just sounds so middle school but that's alright.

If anyone really knows me then they know that I grew up listening to Spanish and it is one of my favorite types of music. Usually on Sunday nights while driving home from work I listen to the Spanish radio. I may not understand half the songs but I love to feel the music and the raw emotion is some of the slower songs. Selena is probably one of my favorite Spanish singers. She was so talented. I always look forward to listening to the Spanish radio every Sunday Night

The other movie that I watched was El Cartel De Los Sapos. This movie I wasn't too much into but it definitely was interesting. Basically a guy needed a way to get money and so he starts to invest in drugs. He started to work for North Valley Cartel. It is one of the most brutal drug embezzlers ever. He go in a lot of trouble and with all the trouble and all the attention Martin begins to have family troubles. If someone really likes this sort of movie I would highly recommend it to them.
CP2+3
Last weekend I decided to watch movies all day since I did not work. The first movie I watched was Te present a Laura. I really liked it and it did not have the ending it thought it was going to have. Basically there is a girl and a guy and they fall in love but no matter what Laura is supposed to die April 30 and at the end of it she runs away the guy finds her and he saves her. And then it ends. I have no idea if they live happily ever after or not. Other than that it was a very good movie. I liked the way the directors went and they defiantly kept you up on your toes.

Today while I was at the Lowes to pick up a couple of things. I checked out using the self check out machine. I wasn't too confident in my ability with using the Spanish button but I did it anyways. I had to ask help a couple of times but I eventually got it and I was able to buy my paint and plants successfully.
I was very excited that i was able to get through it without too much trouble. I was very happy with myself.

Community Practice 4
For a community practice while I was on vacation in Miami I spoke to a few people in spanish there. Almost everyone speaks it! I said a few things to some people like "Mi gusta la playa, mucho." and "El clime es hermoso aquĆ." It was fun!
Community Practice #8&9
For this community practice, I watched the film El orfanato, a Spanish horror movie. The movie is about a husband and wife, Laura and Carlos, and their adopted son Simon. The wife was also an adopted child, so she brings Simon to her old orphanage to see where she grew up. The husband and wife then reopen the orphanage to cater to children with disabilities, where Simon then begins to talk to old ghosts and hauntings of the house from years ago.
Community Practice 9&10
For my last two Community Practices, I watched "Te Presento a Laura" on Netflix with Allie. We watched the movie in Spanish with English subtitles. Te Presento a Laura means "Introducing Laura" in English. The movie is about:

Community Practice #7
For this community practice, I was inspired when watching Pirates of the Carribean that was on TV last week, which stars Penelope Cruz. I decided to look more into her culture and her upbringing, and learned that she was born in Alcobendas, Spain, where she grew up.
The city of Alcobendas is located about seven miles from the city of Madrid, and is includes an industrial zone, a central urban zone, as well as residential areas.
Community Practice #6
For the community practice, I chose to attend the multicultural fair on campus, that showcased many different cultures though there was a large presence of Hispanic foods and music. The food at the event consisted of arroz con pollo, and the plantains were very popular with the students attending the event.

Community Practice #10
For my tenth community practice I went the the culture event on campus. There were many performances and so much free foods! Although there were multiple cultures present there were mostly Hispanic foods and performances. The food was delicious. I honestly wanted the event to keep going on when it ended. My favorite plate of food I ate that day was arroz con pollo. I also loved the platanos aka plantains!
Community Practice #9
For my ninth community practice I went to an OLAS event on campus. OLAS is an abbreviation for organization of Latin american students. In the event we learned how to do salsa. It was very difficult and i was frustrated but, eventually I got the hang of it.It was a very fun event. I would like to learn other Hispanic dances such as the tango or bachata.
Community Practice #8
For my eight community practice I learned the alphabet in Spanish. There was a cool video on YouTube that taught me the pronunciation of the letters. There are 29 letters in the Spanish alphabet while English only has 26. The video is very musical with images to match the letters. Here is a link of the video I watched https://youtu.be/KjhrOgJxuJY
