Community Practice #3

For my third Community Practice I decided to post a comment in spanish on a youtube video. Though I don’t know the spanish others can see this and understand it. I think that this experience was beneficial because I was able to use another language to express how I felt about something.

Community Practice #2

For my second Community Practice I decided to turn my phone into spanish and see what words I could learn. I was able to learn the words for settings, messages, time, control center, night mode and others. Some other spanish words I learned were cambiando, sonidos, and privacidad, panatela y brillo, and notificaciones.

Community practice #1

I watched the spanish Sportscenter on television. I watched for about 10 minutes while they showed sports highlights. I couldn't follow everything said because they spoke so fast but I still got a good idea of what they were saying in every segment. The difference between an English sportscenter and the Spanish one was that the Spanish sportscenter has so much more energy. Not saying that English espn is boring and dead to watch but you could see the Hispanic sports analyst get so much more excited after certain plays like when someone scores a goal in soccer.

Antoinette R. Community Practice #1

For my first community practice I decided to look up the lyrics to Don Omar-Danza Kuduro ft Lucenzo. I absouloutely love this song. Every time I go out I would hear this song playing. It is a festive and fun song! I am always repeating the lyrics. Some words I understand and some words I can't really make out. Since I adore this song so much I decided to look up the lyrics. After looking up the lyrics, I noticed how much the instruments and beats matched what he was signing about. He is singing about dancing and having a good time. This shows you that there are other things that can help you understand what is going on. It is important to pay attention to nonverbal things as well as verbal. I am happy because the next time I hear this song I can tell my friends what he is talking about. This is a good way to learn spanish. It makes me familiar with certain words further expanding my spanish vocabulary.

Community Practice Two

For my second community practice I did research on Spanish music. One of my favorite Spanish artists is Prince Royce. I learned about him in a high school Spanish class and ever since I’ve enjoyed his music. One of the songs I listened to was “Corazon Sin Cara”. I thought it would help my Spanish speaking if I looked up a translation of the lyrics in English, so I can compare the words I did and didn’t recall from class. I learned that the translation of the song title was “Heart without a Face”. I thought that this was an interesting title, and that the song has a great meaning and message behind it. I recognized the words “gordo” and “flaca” from the song and realized Prince Royce was singing to a female and telling her he didn’t care if she was fat or thin, none of that matters to him. I looked up the meaning behind the line “Y el amor vive an el alma” because some words stuck out to me such as vive, and amor. I learned some new Spanish from this line and discovered that the line means “And love lives in the soul”. After listening to the song and reading the Spanish lyrics I realized that it is easy to figure out what the artist is saying from looking at all of the cognates that are similar to English words such as perfecto, and importa. I would definitely be interested in listening to more Spanish music after doing some research on Spanish artists.

Community Practice #1

For my first community practice I listen to a Spanish song.  I listened to a song called "Bailando". The lyrics were very challenging to understand. I was able to pick up some of the words but still don't know everything. The first time I listened to the song I played it, then I listened to it again with lyrics. Finally I   used a translator on google to pick up the rest of the lyrics. They also have an English version of the song. Not my type of music at all, but I found it to be somewhat beneficial. I found it interesting that there is an English version to go with the Spanish version.  I attached the lyrics below along with the link.

Lyrics
Yo te miro, se me corta la respiración
Cuanto tu me miras se me sube el corazón (me palpita lento el corazón)
Y en silencio tu mirada dice mil palabras
La noche en la que te suplico que no salga el sol
Tu cuerpo y el mio llenando el vacío
Subiendo y bajando (subiendo y bajando)
(Bailando, bailando, bailando, bailando)
Ese fuego por dentro me esta enloqueciendo
Me va saturando
Con tu física y tu química también tu anatomía
La cerveza y el tequila y tu boca con la mía
Ya no puedo mas (ya no puedo mas) Ya no puedo mas (ya no puedo mas)
Con esta melodía, tu color, tu fantasía
Con tu filosofía mi cabeza esta vacía
Y ya no puedo mas (ya no puedo mas)
Ya no puedo mas (ya no puedo mas)

Al salir de la casa este es el camino que usted está en

Community Practice #1

For my first community practice I listened to a spanish song called Donde Estan Corazon by Enrique Iglesias. When listening to this song I was able to pick up on a few words here and there like Corazon, volar, el agua, del rio, donde, vivimios, quieren, and el pasado. Though I don’t know enough spanish to get what the song is saying I can use what I’ve learned to put together a few lines here and there and understand what I can. I think that this experience was beneficial because I was able to listen to spanish in a way that intrigued my interest and helped me to focus. These are the lyrics:
